With the city of Richmond being located so close to the Atlantic Ocean and the Chesapeake Bay, seafood is a popular cuisine. Seafood restaurants are plentiful throughout Richmond. Below are a few of the standouts.

It may surprise diners to find one of the best seafood restaurants in all of Richmond located in a strip mall, but that is where Pescados is. The food is rich with seafood and any seafood lover will love Pescados. This Midlothian restaurant, whose name means fishes in Spanish, received five stars from yelp.com. The food served at Pescados is a fusion of Spanish and Basque influences. Pescados has a casual atmosphere and the Richmond Times Dispatch described it as “not fine dining but fun dining”. A few recommended dishes at Pescados are the Enchilada Acapulco and the Calamar a la Parilla.

Croakers Spot, located in Downtown, is a soul food restaurant that specializes in seafood. This restaurant is often busy and crowded, so be prepared to wait. But the wait will be worth it. The portions at Croakers Spot are large and the fish is described as the best cooked fish in all of Richmond. Eaters rave about the fish platter with mashed potatoes, green peppers and onions. A few highly recommended dishes at Croakers Spot include the fish fry po’boy, the soul wedges, and the baked lake trout. Remember to order a glass of the refreshing homemade limeade!

While Wild Ginger is actually an Asian restaurant, this eatery pays particular attention to seafood. Wild Ginger, located in Midlothian, received three and a half stars out of four from the Richmond Times Dispatch. This restaurant opened in April 2009 to rave reviews. The cuisine has pan-Asian flavors and focuses on sushi and small plates. The dining room is decorated with contemporary touches. Recommended dishes include the Surf & Turf roll, which is a lobster tempura, seared filet mignon and caviar roll, and the incredibly fresh sashimi plate. The plate includes 15 pieces of the chef’s top fish selection, typically with tuna, salmon and escolar.
